TV-friendly copies and trouble titles

When a stream converts or stops to load, Monitor says why and offers the fix that matches. It might link to the Video speed fix or to Viewing's subtitle settings, offer to Limit streams away from home to N Mbps, or offer Make a TV-friendly copy of this title. Trouble titles on Monitor lists titles Jellyfin converted, or that stopped to load, 3 or more times in the last 30 days, and why.

What a TV-friendly copy is. It's a second file next to the original that almost every TV, phone and browser plays as it is, so Jellyfin doesn't have to convert it:

  • The video is H.264 at up to 1080p, and HDR is turned into normal colours.
  • The sound is stereo, plus the original surround track when the file can carry it, and text subtitles are kept.
  • Jellyfin shows it as a "TV" version of the same title.
  • The original is never changed, moved or deleted.
  1. Click Make a TV-friendly copy on a trouble title. Or, under TV-friendly copies, search for any movie or episode.
  2. Reelhost shows the copy's file name, about how big it will be, and whether the drive has room. It needs the copy's size plus 10 GB to spare.
  3. Click Queue the copy for tonight.
  • Copies are made one at a time between 1 am and 7 am (your computer's time), only while nobody's watching. In Docker, Reelhost does this from your server. A graphics card that passed the Video speed check is used first.
  • If someone starts watching, the copy stops and starts again the next night. Nothing half-made is kept.
  • A copy that fails 3 times shows Couldn't make it with the reason. A copy that would take more than 8 hours is stopped.
  • Cancel takes a waiting copy off the list.
  • Delete copy removes a copy Reelhost made and tells Jellyfin. If the copy was changed since, Reelhost leaves it alone. Removing Reelhost offers to delete the copies that are still unchanged.
  • A movie needs a folder of its own named like the file; the library fixer can move it there. Reelhost doesn't make a copy of Dolby Vision without an HDR10 layer.

Seeing why a stream converts and the trouble titles comes with Core, Complete and Yearly. Making copies needs Complete or Yearly. Cancelling and deleting copies always work.
