For Jellyfin setups
Jellyfin, set up right. In one click.
Jellyfin is powerful, and it leaves the hard parts to you: firewall rules, certificates, router settings, sleep timers, graphics acceleration. Reelhost's free check-up finds what's wrong in seconds, explains it in plain words, and fixes it with one Apply. Every change is backed up first.

What it fixes
Ten checks. Each one is a bar in the strip.
A broken check shows no signal. Reelhost tells you what's wrong in two sentences, shows exactly what the fix will change, and lights the bar when it's done.
-
Firewall
The firewall on Windows or a Mac can quietly block phones and TVs at home from reaching Jellyfin.
How Reelhost fixes it
on Windows, one rule that lets in devices on your home network and nobody else. On a Mac, it lets Jellyfin through the macOS firewall.
-
Watching away from home
Remote access usually means port forwarding, certificates, DNS and a reverse proxy.
How Reelhost fixes it
private access with Tailscale, or a public address at yourname.watchhome.app that works over IPv6 too. How it works
-
Sleep settings
Plugged in, a PC or Mac often sleeps after 30 to 45 minutes. Then nobody can watch, at home or away, and recordings are missed.
How Reelhost fixes it
stops sleep when plugged in. The screen can still turn off, battery settings stay as they are, and Restore puts the old timer back.
-
Video speed
Out of the box, Jellyfin converts video for phones and viewers away from home on the processor, which stalls and buffers.
How Reelhost fixes it
finds your graphics (Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA NVENC or AMD AMF, or Apple's VideoToolbox on a Mac), tests that it really works with Jellyfin's own video engine on this computer, and only then turns it on, with the formats it can decode.
-
Network drives
Jellyfin's Windows service can't see mapped drives like Y:, so libraries on a NAS or another computer come up empty.
How Reelhost fixes it
runs Jellyfin as you, starting when you sign in, so it sees the same drives you do. On a Mac it's Start at login: your shares reconnect and Jellyfin opens when you log in.
-
Antenna TV
Your HDHomeRun tuner works, but Jellyfin doesn't have it, or its guide is empty.
How Reelhost fixes it
adds the tuner with SiliconDust's free two-day guide, matched to every channel and kept up to date. Scans and recordings
Running Emby on the same computer? Four more checks keep the two servers out of each other's way.
Both servers want the same port, both answer on your network, and both write artwork into the same folders. Without Emby, these show as not needed. Using Emby on its own? Reelhost works with Emby too.
-
Web port
Emby and Jellyfin both want port 8096, so each device reaches one or the other depending on how it connects.
How Reelhost fixes it
moves Jellyfin to a free port, so both servers run side by side.
-
Server discovery
When an app searches your network, Emby and Jellyfin both answer, so apps can find the wrong server.
How Reelhost fixes it
turns off Jellyfin's discovery. You type its address into each app once.
-
TV media list (DLNA)
Both servers show up in your TV's media list and compete for the same network port.
How Reelhost fixes it
turns off Jellyfin's DLNA and leaves Emby's in place. You can choose to keep it.
-
Artwork in media folders
When Emby and Jellyfin share folders, both write artwork and info files there and overwrite each other's.
How Reelhost fixes it
keeps Jellyfin's artwork inside Jellyfin, library by library.
The same checks on Windows, Mac and Docker. What's different on each.
- On a Mac
- All ten checks, done the macOS way: the macOS firewall, sleep on the power adapter, Apple's VideoToolbox for video, and Start at login in place of Network drives. Your Mac asks for your password before a fix changes the firewall or sleep settings.
- In Docker
- Firewall, Sleep settings and Network drives don't apply in a container, so they're hidden: the ports you publish decide who can reach Jellyfin. Antenna tuners are set up on the Antenna & recordings screen.

How it works
Scan, review, apply. Undo anytime.
Scan
Open Reelhost and the check-up runs in a few seconds. Free, and it changes nothing.
Review
See every change in plain words, with the file it touches, before anything happens.
Apply
Reelhost stops Jellyfin, backs up its settings, writes the fix, restarts Jellyfin and confirms it answers.
Restore anytime
Every Apply makes a backup. Restore puts Jellyfin's settings back exactly as they were.
Looking after it, afterwards
The jobs that come up later, handled in the same plain words.
-
UpdatesReelhost installs its own updates in one click, and tells you when a newer Jellyfin is out. In Docker it tells you, and
docker compose pullupdates it. - Get helpOne click opens a support request with a short diagnostics report filled in. You read it, and nothing is sent until you choose Send.
- Monitor and alertsWho's watching, why a stream struggles, and disk and Jellyfin health. Email alerts with Complete.
- Sync jobsCopy new and changed files between drives or folders on a schedule, or keep a drive and a NAS in step both ways. Replaced files are kept 30 days. With Complete.
- Leave cleanlyRemove Reelhost takes away what it added to your computer, your router and Jellyfin. Your libraries, people and media stay.
Safety
Careful by design.
Reelhost only changes what you approve, writes it down first, and can put it all back.
- PreviewedEvery change is listed, with the file it touches, before anything runs.
- Backed up and reversibleEach Apply saves the old settings first. Restore puts them back, firewall rule and sleep timer included.
- Checked afterwardsReelhost restarts Jellyfin and waits until it answers before saying it's done.
- Plex is never modified; Emby and your media only when you chooseReelhost changes Jellyfin's settings and add-ons, and outside Jellyfin only what a feature needs: the plugged-in sleep timer, its own firewall rules and scheduled tasks, and for a web address, one router rule and a secure proxy. Removing Reelhost takes them away again.
- Works offlineAfter you activate it once, fixes and restores need no internet connection.
- Jellyfin stays free and untouchedReelhost is a separate tool that works with Jellyfin. It doesn't include or change Jellyfin's program.
Questions
Do I need to know anything about networking?
No. Reelhost explains each problem in two sentences and shows the exact change before it makes it. Watching away from home is set up for you, router port included, with UPnP.
Will it change my media files?
No. The check-up's fixes change Jellyfin's settings and, outside Jellyfin, only what a fix needs, like a firewall rule of its own or the plugged-in sleep timer. Each one is backed up first.
I don't have Jellyfin yet. Can Reelhost install it?
Yes. Set up Jellyfin for me downloads Jellyfin from Jellyfin's own server, checks it, finds your media and adds your libraries. Installing Jellyfin, your account, finding media and libraries are free.
