Set up Jellyfin for me
When Reelhost finds no Jellyfin, or one whose own setup isn't finished, it opens on Let's get you watching. Click Set up Jellyfin for me. You see each step before it happens, and your media files are never changed.
- Install. Click Install Jellyfin (the button shows the version). Reelhost downloads the newest stable Jellyfin from Jellyfin's own server, repo.jellyfin.org, and runs it only if it matches the SHA-256 checksum Jellyfin publishes. On Windows it runs as a service whenever the PC is on (Windows asks for permission); on a Mac it goes in Applications and opens when you log in. If Emby holds port 8096, Jellyfin gets the next free port and Emby isn't touched. With Jellyfin already here, or in Docker, this step is skipped.
- Your account. Your name, a password of at least 6 characters and, optionally, a name for the server, then Make my account. The password goes to Jellyfin only; Reelhost keeps a key named Reelhost (more).
- Your media. Reelhost looks through the drives (on a Mac, your home folder and /Volumes; in Docker, your mounted folders), skipping system and program folders. It only looks. Untick anything that isn't for watching, change what a folder holds, or Add another folder, then click Add 3 folders to Jellyfin (the number is how many you ticked). Each kind becomes one library.
- Settings. Recommended settings, already ticked: titles in your language, faster video conversion, previews, Skip intro, subtitles, a home screen like Plex, the firewall and sleep. Click Turn on 6 settings (the number is how many are ticked). Jellyfin restarts once.
- Family adds people (how), and Devices shows a code to scan in the Jellyfin app.
- Click Open Jellyfin and run the check-up.
- Stop any time. Finish later closes it. Reelhost opens again at the same step, and the sidebar shows Finish setting up Jellyfin.
- Jellyfin already set up? A new Reelhost offers Run the check-up or Walk me through the recommended settings, which starts at Your media.
- Jellyfin out of date? The welcome offers Update Jellyfin first: its settings are backed up, then the new version is installed from jellyfin.org, checked the same way. Skip the update carries on.
- Install failed? Try again, or Install it from jellyfin.org instead.
- Removing Reelhost keeps Jellyfin unless you choose to remove it too.
Installing Jellyfin, your account, finding media, libraries and titles in your language are free. Faster video, firewall and sleep need Core; previews, Skip intro, subtitles, the home screen and Family need Complete or Yearly. Settings your plan doesn't include say Part of Complete or Part of Core.
