Install on Mac
Reelhost for Mac runs on macOS 12 or later. It's one app for Apple silicon and Intel Macs, signed by Wizzered Inc and notarized by Apple.
- Download Reelhost for Mac from reelhost.app. You get a .dmg file.
- Open the .dmg and drag Reelhost to Applications.
- Open Reelhost from Applications. The first time, macOS asks whether you're sure you want to open an app downloaded from the internet: choose Open. If it says anything else, see macOS won't open Reelhost.
- The check-up runs on its own. It's free, and it changes nothing.
Reelhost runs as you, not as an administrator. Applying a fix that changes the macOS firewall or the sleep settings shows your Mac's own password prompt (why); other fixes don't ask.
On a Mac the same ten checks are done the macOS way:
- Jellyfin is the Jellyfin app (Jellyfin.app). Reelhost finds its settings, and stops and starts it for fixes.
- Firewall uses the macOS firewall: it lets Jellyfin through. When the firewall is off, nothing is blocked and the check says so.
- Sleep settings apply on the power adapter only; battery settings stay as they are.
- Network drives is called Start at login: it reconnects your shares and opens Jellyfin when you log in. More.
- Video speed tests Apple's VideoToolbox with Jellyfin's own video tools.
- Private watching: Reelhost links you to Tailscale for Mac, then checks again once it's installed.
If you set Jellyfin up to run as a background job yourself (launchd with KeepAlive) rather than with the Jellyfin app, Reelhost can't stop it for a fix yet. Use the Jellyfin app, or stop the job before you apply.
