Themes for Jellyfin
Open Watching → Themes. There are eight looks: Abyss, Paper, Aurora, Mono, Cinema, Orbit, Reelhost and Midnight. Abyss is Aum Gupta's theme (MIT license). You can look at them all before Reelhost is connected to Jellyfin; using one needs the connection.
- On a look's card, click Use … for everyone. Everyone who hasn't picked a theme sees it.
- Or, to leave Jellyfin's default alone and only offer the looks, click Add the themes to Jellyfin's menu.
- Each person picks their own, on each device: in Jellyfin open Settings, then Display, choose under Theme, and select Save.
Jellyfin's theme menu. Jellyfin can't add theme names of its own, so Reelhost draws its looks on Jellyfin's built-in themes, which keep their names. To start, Apple TV shows Paper, Blue Radiance shows Aurora, Light shows Mono, Purple Haze shows Cinema and WMC shows Abyss. Dark, Jellyfin's default, shows the look chosen for everyone. That's five places for eight looks. Use In Jellyfin's theme menu as on a card to move a look into a place; the look that was there leaves the menu. Not in the menu takes it out. Each person picks their own lists what each name shows now.
- Jellyfin keeps each person's choice on the device, not on the server. Two people on one TV keep their own, and someone's phone and laptop can differ. Reelhost can't pick for anyone.
- Themes reach web browsers, Jellyfin Media Player, the Android phone and tablet app, and LG and Samsung TV apps. The Android TV and Fire TV app, Swiftfin, Roku, Infuse and Kodi keep their own look.
- People see a change the next time Jellyfin's web app opens or is refreshed.
- Custom CSS already in Jellyfin stays. Reelhost adds its themes after it, between two marked lines, and only ever changes those lines.
- When a newer version of the look in use is out, its card shows Update ….
- Use Jellyfin's own Dark for everyone keeps the looks in the menu and gives Dark back. Put back Jellyfin's look takes Reelhost's themes off completely. Anyone who picked one of the other names then sees Jellyfin's own version of it.
Looking is free; using a theme needs Complete or Yearly. Putting back Jellyfin's look always works.
