Smart lights that follow the music (in development)

Status: not available yet. The first part is written and checked only against a pretend Hue bridge. It has not been tried on a real bridge or real bulbs, and nothing in Reelhost turns it on yet, so there is nothing to switch on.

  • What it is meant to do. Philips Hue lights in your room take their colours from the album cover or the film's poster, or pulse to the DJ's beat. It is an optional extra and off until you turn it on, pair your bridge by pressing its link button, and pick the lights.
  • On your home network only. Reelhost talks to the bridge directly. It does not use Hue's cloud and needs no account.
  • Gentle on purpose. Reelhost saves each light's state first and puts it back afterwards, never touches lights you didn't pick, keeps below the bridge's speed limit, caps brightness, and never changes any one light more than two and a half times a second, so fast songs are followed on every second or fourth beat.
  • Other brands. LIFX, Nanoleaf, Home Assistant and others are planned after Hue. None is built.

When you remove Reelhost, its lights settings and the bridge key it kept go too. Reelhost can't take its own entry off your Hue bridge from there: in the Hue app, open Settings, Bridge settings, and remove "reelhost" from the authorised apps.
