Reelhost never stores your files; it only carries them
Reelhost doesn't run a place where your photos, videos or files are kept. Our servers (the ones behind reelhost.app and your watchhome.app address) don't receive, hold or look at your files, their names, pictures of them or any keys. Everything that holds your files is your own computer or server.
- Sending a file (see Send a file privately) goes from the sender's own server to the other person's device. While it waits, it's an encrypted copy on the sender's server, and it's deleted once everyone has it or its end date passes. The other person saves it themselves, wherever they choose.
- Sharing photos by link, with people, in albums and as an event wallpaper points at photos already in your Jellyfin libraries. Event wallpapers copy nothing.
- What your own server may still hold because of features you turn on: edited copies saved before that was switched off, files an earlier version kept in the personal file space or the encrypted vault (both are gone; Reelhost never deletes those files itself, and Remove Reelhost lists them so you can choose to delete them), and the other things Reelhost's other features save on your computer, such as subtitle files next to a video if you use AI subtitles. These are on your computer, not ours.
What Send files does not do
- It is encrypted where it's kept, with keys that belong to the people involved, but it isn't end-to-end encryption: your server opens a file for you while you're signed in.
- It doesn't check files for viruses. Programs are refused and archives are held back from links, but a document or archive can still carry something harmful. Only open files from people you know.
- If you lose both your passphrase and your recovery code, nobody, including us, can open what's waiting. We don't hold a copy of anything that could.
