Check from outside: what each result means
After setup, and whenever you click Check from outside, Reelhost's server visits your address. It reports IPv4 and IPv6 separately when your address has both. While a new name or certificate is on its way, it keeps checking for about two minutes.
| What Reelhost says | What to do |
|---|---|
| "The address doesn't lead anywhere yet." | Nothing. A new address takes a minute or two to reach the whole internet. |
| "Your PC answered, but its security certificate isn't ready yet." | Wait a minute. If it lasts, port 443 may lead to another device at home: check your router's port forwarding. |
| "Your home internet connection turned the visit away." | Your router isn't sending port 443 to this computer. Check the Open your router step, or add the rule by hand. |
| "Nothing at your home answered within 10 seconds." | The router rule is missing or points at an old address of this computer, or a firewall on the computer (some antivirus suites have their own) blocks port 443. Reserve this computer's address in the router. |
| "The address reaches your computer, but Jellyfin isn't answering." | Start Jellyfin (see Jellyfin isn't answering), then check again. |
| "…something other than Jellyfin answered." | Port 443 leads to another device, such as a NAS or another server. Point the rule at this computer. |
| "Over IPv6, …" turned away or didn't answer | Your router's IPv6 firewall blocks visits. Allow incoming TCP 443 to this computer's IPv6 address. |
| "Our server can't check IPv6 yet." | Nothing is wrong at your home. That part just wasn't tested. |
| "Checked moments ago." | Wait 10 seconds, then check again. |
| "The license for this address has ended." | Renew to keep the address up to date. A yearly address keeps following your home for 30 days after the plan ends. |
