Watching away from home

IPv6

Your address works over IPv6 when your internet provider gives your home IPv6. Reelhost adds this computer's own stable IPv6 address to your name (never a temporary one), and the address says which kinds work:

  • Works over IPv4 and IPv6. Everyone can reach it.
  • Works over IPv6. Viewers on networks without IPv6 can't reach it yet. If someone can't connect, the private option ("Just my devices") also works.

Routers don't forward IPv6. Instead, their IPv6 firewall has to let visits in, and Reelhost can't ask the router for that yet, so you do it once:

  1. Open your router's settings in a browser and sign in.
  2. Find the IPv6 firewall. It's sometimes called IPv6 pinholes, IPv6 port opening, or Security.
  3. Allow incoming TCP port 443 to this computer's IPv6 address (Reelhost shows it). Name it Reelhost, then save.

The firewall step and the HTTPS certificate already cover IPv6. Providers sometimes change IPv6 addresses: Reelhost moves your name on its own, and the Away screen tells you to update the router rule that names the old address.
