Set up your web address (name.watchhome.app)
- Choose A web address I can share.
- Type a name under Choose a name: 3 to 32 letters, numbers and hyphens. Reelhost says straight away whether it's free.
- Click Claim yourname.watchhome.app. Reelhost runs six steps and shows how each one went:
- Claim the name: reserves it for your license and points it at your home's internet address.
- Let Jellyfin accept visits through it: turns on remote watching, backed up first. People set to watch at home only still can't sign in from outside.
- Open your router: sends secure web visits (port 443) to this computer. Nothing else is opened. More.
- Allow it through the firewall (Windows Firewall, or the macOS firewall): lets the secure connection on this computer receive visits from the internet. Jellyfin itself stays reachable only at home.
- Get the HTTPS certificate: installs Caddy, which gets a free certificate from Let's Encrypt, and an hourly check that keeps the address pointed at your home.
- Check from outside: Reelhost's server visits your address from the internet, like a phone on cellular would. What the results mean.
- When it's done, your address appears with Copy and Open, where it points and when it was last checked.
If a step needs your hands, such as a router without UPnP, Reelhost shows exactly what to do and carries on. If a step fails, fix what it says and click Try again.
When your home's internet address changes, the hourly check moves your name to it, and puts the router rule back after a router restart. Reelhost doesn't need to be open.
